The CDPA requires certain organizations (whether Data Controllers or Data Processors) to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) when their core processing activities:
  • Require regular and systematic monitoring of data subjects on a large scale; or
  • Involve a large scale of special categories of data (i.e. biometric data, health data) or personal data relating to criminal convictions and offenses

They also act as a point of contact for the regulator and the Data Protection Authorities (DPAs).
